Thread: inconsistent flash output

    inconsistent flash output

Hello, I am using the Cognisys scout system with a pair of wired SB-28 flashes (modified connections) and a Canon 6D. The Scout trigger is working great. However, I'm finding that I will consistently have the first shot brighter than the second, and the second brighter than the 3rd. It appears that the flash output is going down progressively. I have attached an example. I was shooting in "burst mode" and switched to using a 0.5 sec pause between shots but I am still having the issue. Attaching example. Flashes are set at 1/2 and 1/4 power. Shutter is 1/160.

    Thank you,
    Zach

It sounds like you have either a weak flash or weak batteries. What kind of batteries are you using? Another product for short recycle times you might look for a Nikon SD-8A or one of the many Chinese copies.

This will speed up recycle times.

    Hope this helps.

Do both flashes have the same issue?

Yes, the problem seems to have improved by increasing ISO and lowering flash power. I'm still working on finding a balance so that there is no decrease in flash output between shots.
